Permanent Holiday Lights FAQ
Pricing and Getting Started
How much do permanent holiday lights cost?
The cost depends on the size and design of your home, the amount of roofline being covered, accessibility, and the complexity of the installation. Because every home is different, the best way to get accurate pricing is to request a free quote from Lighthouse Originals.
Are permanent holiday lights worth it?
For homeowners who regularly install Christmas lights or enjoy exterior accent lighting, permanent lights eliminate the yearly process of putting lights up and taking them down. They also provide year-round lighting options for holidays, special occasions, sporting events, and architectural lighting.
How do I get a quote?

How long does installation take?
Installation time depends on the size of the home, the amount of lighting being installed, roofline complexity, and accessibility. Most homes take one or two days, but we can give you a better estimate once we see your property.
Can permanent holiday lights be installed during winter?
Often, yes. Weather, snow, ice, temperature, and safe access can affect when an installation can be completed. Contact us and we can determine what is practical for your property.
The Lights
What are permanent holiday lights?
Permanent holiday lights are professionally installed LED lights that remain on your home year-round. They are mounted in a discreet track along the roofline and can be controlled from your phone to create different colours, patterns, and effects for Christmas, other holidays, special events, or everyday architectural lighting.
Can you see permanent holiday lights during the day?
The lighting system is designed to blend into the roofline as much as possible. The lights and track are much less noticeable during the day than traditional hanging Christmas lights while still providing bright, attractive lighting at night. The lights protrude discreetly from a custom track that is securely mounted to the soffit or roofline. The track is colour-matched to your home, allowing it to blend seamlessly with the soffit and remain virtually unnoticeable during the day.
Do permanent lights only work for Christmas?
No. You can use them throughout the year for Christmas, Halloween, Canada Day, birthdays, sporting events, special occasions, warm-white architectural lighting, and much more. You can change the colours and patterns whenever you want.
Can permanent holiday lights produce warm white light?
Yes. The system can be used for traditional warm-white architectural lighting as well as coloured holiday and accent lighting. This makes the lights useful even when you don’t want a holiday-style display.
Can I control the lights from my phone?
Yes. The system can be controlled using a smartphone, allowing you to change colours, patterns, brightness, and lighting effects without having to go outside and physically change the lights.
Can I create custom colours and patterns?
Yes. The system allows extensive customization so you can create different colours, patterns, and effects for different holidays and occasions. This gives you considerably more flexibility than traditional Christmas-light strings. The combinations of colour/movement are virtually endless.
How much electricity do permanent holiday lights use?
LED lights are very energy efficient compared with traditional incandescent Christmas lights. Actual electricity consumption depends on the number of lights, brightness settings, colours being used, and how many hours you operate the system.
How long do permanent holiday lights last?
LED lighting is designed for long-term use and generally lasts much longer than traditional Christmas lighting. Actual lifespan depends on usage, weather exposure, and the individual components in the system, but the lights are rated to last 50000 hours, which at 5 hours per night every night, is 25 years. The whole system is guaranteed with a 5 year warranty.
Installation & Reliability
How are permanent holiday lights installed?
The lights are installed in a track that follows the roofline of your home. A professional installation keeps the wiring hidden & organized, creates consistent spacing, and gives the finished system a clean appearance.
Can permanent holiday lights handle Canadian winters?
Yes. Permanent exterior lighting systems are designed for outdoor use and demanding weather conditions. Lighthouse Originals installs permanent lighting throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia, where winter temperatures and conditions can be challenging.
What happens if one of the lights stops working?
Individual components can be serviced or replaced if a problem occurs. One of the advantages of a professionally installed permanent system is that the entire installation does need to be removed simply because one component requires service. Each light can easily be removed and replaced individually if it is faulty.
Can permanent lights be installed on different types of homes?
Yes. Permanent lighting can be installed on many different house styles and rooflines. Because soffits, fascia, rooflines, and exterior materials vary, Lighthouse Originals evaluates each property individually when preparing a quote.
What happens if I replace my roof or eavestrough?
The lights are normally installed in the soffit, which means unless you need to replace the soffit, the impact of a roof or eavestrough replacement on the lights should be minimal. Sometimes extensions need to be temporarily disconnected and moved, but the vast majority of the lighting installation should remain untouched unless the soffit is being replaced.
Service Areas & Other Questions
Where does Lighthouse Originals install permanent holiday lights?
Lighthouse Originals provides permanent holiday light installation throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. If you’re unsure whether we currently service your community, contact us and we’ll let you know.
Are permanent lights better than traditional Christmas lights?
Traditional Christmas lights can cost less initially, but they need to be installed, removed, and stored every year. Permanent lights remain on the home year-round, are controlled electronically, and can be used for far more than Christmas. Our permanent lights are brighter, and offer far more colour/movement patterns than virtually any temporary system. Permanent lights also add some value to your home because they are a permanent feature of the building. Which option is better depends on how often you use exterior lighting and how much you value convenience, functionality and appearance.
